The Rating System

The heart and soul of staymatrix.com

It was early days for our business (phase 2, the earlier post was read) when we realised that serviced apartments have a business pattern and a service pattern which is very different from that of hotels.

One major disadvantage in finding a common thread of service was the range of types of serviced apartments that existed.  On one hand were the "mom & pop" apartments which were stand alone with a caretaker and on the other end of the scale were global giant brands who ran establishments that , at first glance could not be distinguished from 5 star hotels.

StayMatrix had been set up with a core value of creating transparency to the end customer. To that effect, it was important for us that the customer experienced WSYWYG. That originated the rating system. And it was clear that customer feedback, though important, cannot be the only measure of a comparative rating. More on the disadvantages of customer feedback in rating in a later blog.

The first step was to list out all possible parameters that should be used to rate a serviced apartment. And it was difficult. But ultimately, we listed out 54 distinct items that a serviced apartment should be rated on. The left panel on www.staymatrix.com, after selecting any city, gives these parameters. This list is obviously not fully complete and we are continually adding to it.
